Lisa's Journal

I want to keep everyone up-to-date on what is going on in my life and how they can specifically pray for me. I was recently diagnosed with tonsil cancer and will soon be receiving treatment. I plan to go to U of M for treatment. Please pray for courage, strength and for me to hear God's voice.

2 down 33 to go

Hi everyone..............
This is great, I have found a computer right at the radiation center, so I can go on-line and update everyday. Things so far went well. Treatment only last about thirty minutes. I don't feel a thing, but about 15 minutes into it, the back of my head gets really, really sore since I can not move my head at all. I have had two treatments, now 33 to go.....yes!! While I sit there under that big machine, all I am thinking is bye-bye cancer. I can bring CD's and I plan to put my Casting Crowns on. My best buddy Kathy spent the last two days with me, time flew. I will go back Monday at 6:30 p.m. That is nice, so I can have a long weekend at home. Next week starts the real schedule.....5 days a week with Tuesday as the Chemo day. My spirits are good, I have had a great cheerleader the past couple days. I am positive and look forward to seeing the girls. Please pray for Ray, his back is giving him problems, very painful. Keep the prayers up. Pray specifically for God to use this chemo and radiation for healing.

LOVE YOU ALL.

Lisa

    Lisa,
We are so happy that God is keeping you in such good spirits. You and Ray are in our prayers every day. We know that God has a higher purpose for you and that he will carry you through this. Please remember to call us any time you need anything, if you need us to drive up to Michigan, please call we can come. Sometimes we feel so helpless because we are so far away, please remember you have friends in PA who love you!

Your title reminds me of a football game..33 yards to go. As I sit and you do your "runs" of radiation, I have it so easy and know that I am lucky to be sitting on the sidelines just waiting and watching. Like a fan who has no clue of what it must feel like to play the game and yet make comments on how I might be if it were me. The only ones who can relate are the ones who've done it.

I do know of what a privilege it is to hang out with all these positive cancer patients. WOW, everyone I have met tell a story and every story is different. They are all positive people and you know they have gone through so much. A goofy thing happened to Lis and I..watch t.v. and see if we are on the bloopers show after getting lost in the parking garage. They kept making us drive in circles! Ha,ha two blondes they thought. It took a few times to get out and not see the same guy in the yellow vest! Another story, Lis and I wanted to change the water jug, you know the Ecowater stuff. She said it was 5lbs. and then said 5 gallons..it was heavy! We needed help as my arms were ready to break, I asked a guy named Sam to take over and if Lisa didn't catch him unwrapping the cover which snaps on to the tank dealy, there would be 5 gallons all over the place. The funny stories I hope will keep happening to us and make it a little brighter along the way.

    Lisa,
I just want to encourage you through this time and to let you know that I am praying for you and your family. You give me encouragement just hearing your positive attitude and I hope you never lose it. I am looking forward to hearing your cheerful laugh and working with you again.

    Lisa,
On Saturday, we were at a kids' fishing get-together with so many smiles on 3 to 11 year old girls and boys, about 60 (some Dads brought 5 kids, so this year we got to go as Gram-Gramp helpers, tho usually we bring a kid or two). Our friends stock their two ponds with trout, crappies, blue gill, sunfish, and frogs and ... so the little pumpkins can for sure catch something. What fun to watch little faces as they reel them in, ... and not sure if they want to touch them to bring them to the table to get measured for the 1-hour contest. Please know the annual hostess of the event is a smiling, healthy cancer survivor (big-time survivor). Linda's smile radiates even more than she did before she went through her cancer. L just passed her 5-year recovery date ... set free of even the cancer shadow, she says. You both have the attitude of knowing how to live life & exemplify the joy of each moment -- friendship, Ray, your beautiful girls, Kathy, new buddies at the treatment center, music, feeling God within, seeing hope in peoples eyes, glowing sunshine, refreshing rain, concern for others,... Also, when it's time to cry, that's part of living too. Letting it out and sharing the pain helps all of us. Bless you. We send lots of hope & love.

    Hi Lisa,
Was so anxious to get to work today and see what you had to say about your first 2 tx's. (I was gone Thurs-Sun) I'm so glad things are underway and going well. Nothing new at work to report...we're just pulling for you daily and anxious to have you back:) Keep up the great attitude. You are a blessing to me!

    Lisa,
You are amazing! As I was reading your blog I was feeling little down but I was inspired by your writings. Thank you for your encouraging words. I think of you often and my prayers are with you and your family. I seen Alexa at VBS this morning she was having a great time. The preschoolers were in charge of making the snack for all the kids. Their job was to take unfrosted cupcakes dip them in a big bowl of yellow frosting and then top them with sprinkles. I had to smile because guess were their fingers went before they grab another unfrosted cupcake.
In crafts they put a string on a zipper pouch which held their name tag. Before we tied the string up we let the kids put couple of beads on the string, Alexa really enjoyed doing that. Every day at VBS she will get a little plastic toy to put in her pouch. Keep trusting in the one that LOVES YOU SO MUCH. Love your Sister in Christ, Gail

    Lisa,
Your spritual strength is outstanding. I am more and more encouraged with every update that you give. Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite songs that we sing at church. Hope you enjoy, Shannon and Carol Culver

    Blessed be your name
In the land that is plentiful
Where the streams of abundance flow
    Blessed be your name

    Blessed be your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
    Blessed be your name

    Every blessing you pour out,
    I turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
    Still I will say...
Blessed be the name of the Lord
    Blessed be your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
    Blessed be your glorious name

    Blessed be your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's all as it should be
    Blessed be your name

    Blessed be your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
    Blessed be your name

    Every blessing you pour out,
    I turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
    Still I will say...
Blessed be the name of the Lord
    Blessed be your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
    Blessed be your glorious name

    You give and take away
    You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
    Lord, Blessed be your name

I am so glad that you have such a good friend in Kathy that she can be there with you and for you as you go through your radiation treatments. It helps to have someone to laugh and cry with by your side, especially someone that you have such a long history with! Try not to cause too much trouble there, huh? You sound so optimistic, it's great to hear. You are a strong and brave cancer survivor to be!

We love you and think about you all the time!

We think about and pray for you daily. I know you will be strong and pull through this just fine. Time is already moving past and soon you will be one week gone, then another... and another until you are finished with treatment.
I tell my other friends about you and your plight and I get a 'warm Lisa thought' every time I tell them because I keep picturing you flossing your teeth..you and your meticulous oral care. Ironic where you got your cancer, but you can look at it as a blessing... in another individual the cancer may have gone virtually unnoticed. Not with you.
I keep hearing your laugh. I want to hear it again soon. I remember the conversation we had a few months back on the phone. We rehashed some old funny times and other newer funny circumstances such as the ailments of motherhood; weak bladders (even in teenagers-Brenda), boogey noses, funny things we do, say and hear from the kids. I haven't laughed that hard in a while. Remember that conversation and the laughter we shared, I do. It makes me smile.
Love you all very much. God is with you always.

    Hello Lisa
This is Gloria from Uniontown checking in on you. Glad to hear the first treatments went all right. I am praying that the remaining 33 also go smoothly. I am also visualizing those cancer cells gone. I know God is going to bless you even more that He already has. Keep the faith, and know that others are keeping it for you & with you.
